Thai Elephant Home Genuine Mahout Program gives you the opportunity
to live and work as a full time mahout at the Thai Elephants Home,
volunteers are given full responsibility for one elephant during their
time with us.
This program for people who really love
elephants.Thai Elephant Home believes that our elephant are our most
important responsibility, and our first priority is always the welfare
and happiness of the Elephants. This means that all our volunteers will
have the opportunity to closely interact with the elephants during
their placement. Volunteers can play with the elephants and see their
natural behavior. All volunteers will be accompanied or assisted by
professional mahouts at all times.
The volunteer are expected to
be able to look after themselves, we will help with cooking and you
can become a member of the Thai Elephant Home’s family.
Sometimes we will have a pregnant and baby elephants at the camp, please check the website for more details.
Schedule
Before breakfast
-clean the elephant’s area and feed the elephants
Breakfast at 7.30-8.30 am
After breakfast
-learn to control and to feed the elephants includes cutting the food in the jungle.
-learn to be good mahout, through commands, training and other techniques to look after the elephant.
12-13 have lunch
After lunch
-relax
-feed the elephants
-take them to wash in the river or black mud
-clean the elephant’s area (Somedays we will plant food for the elephant in the jungle)
17.00-18.00 have dinner
After dinner
Feed the elephants
Relax
Feed elephants before going to bed
